Aircraft History Built by Nakajima, estimated date of assembly August 1943. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 0 Carrier Fighter Reisen / A6M2 Model 21 Zero manufacture number 91518. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group). This Zero was abandoned at Colonia Airfield on Yap Island. Wreckage Until 1980, this Zero remained in situ at Colonia Airfield on Yap Island. During 1980, one of four Zeros including this Zero and A6M2 Zero 92717 that were recovered by Nobuo Harada then exported to Japan. Restoration This Zero was restored by Nobuo Harada and his staff at the Harada Collection (Kawaguchiko Car Museum) using parts of the other Zeros including A6M2 Zero 92717. By 2000, the static restoration was complete with the Zero placed on display. The Zero was painted overall gray with a black cowling and tail code OHi-101 (not the original tail code). Display This Zero is on display at at the Harada Collection (Kawaguchiko Car Museum) open to the public during the month of August. Between 2000-2003, displayed with a 60kg bombs mounted under each wing. Today, displayed with a center drop tank and the wingtips folded up.
