Low-level aerial view of B-17E 41-2446 after force landing in the Agaiambo swamp inland from the north coast of New Guinea
On February 23, 1942 returning low on fuel, B-17E 41-2446 force landed into the swamp. Visible is the tail rudder with red and white stripes. The fuselage U.S. star has a red dot in the center and the door and radio hatch are open where the crew exited the bomber. The U.S. star on the left wing appears as a white circle from the reflection of the sun or weathering. This photo was taken months after the force landing because the kunai grass has begun to regrow.
