Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Construction Number 6122. On December 9, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47-DL Skytrain serial number 41-19479. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia arriving at Amberley Airfield on January 21, 1943. Wartime History On January 21, 1943 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 374th Troop Carrier Group (374th TCG), 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron (22nd TCS). Nicknamed "Overtime". Nose number 723. Buzz Number 30. Australian call sign VH-CJG. During 1943, operated in New Guinea flying cargo and passengers. In total, this C-47 flew 1,560 hours and 50 minutes. Paul Roales adds: "I have been doing some research on the photo of the C-47's at Popondetta Airfield in a 163rd Infantry scrapbook. I think I can read the tail number on the C-47 closest to the camera It appears to be 119479. There is no date on the original photo, but it most likely dates to Jan or Feb 1943 based upon other info in the scrapbook." On August 28, 1944 given to the Australian government under lend-lease agreement and to the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) at Mascot Airfield. On February 16, 1945 registered in Australia as VH-AEV. On February 17, 1945 leased to Australian National Airways Pty Ltd (ANA) for use as a civilian airliner. Postwar On Jun 18, 1946 operted by Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) nicknamed "Kennedy". On December 16, 1960 registered as VH-SBI. On April 27, 1972 sold to Lae Technical College and displayed at Lae Airfield April 20, 1975. Administratively transfered to the PNG National Museum but never added to their collection. Fate after 1975 is unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
