Pilot History
Alberto Nisi was born May 29, 1918 and served with US Navy Reserve prior to
being assigned to combat.
Mission History
Took off from the USS Wasp. Last seen going
into a cloud off Iwo
Jima and never returned. Likely, shot down by Japanese A6M5
Zero, from the 301st Kokutai.
Meeting With Relatives
On July 20, 2003 one of the Zero pilots who flew that
day, Kunio Iwashita who shot down a Hellcat that day, met with the
relatives of Alberto Nisi in Massachusetts
to pay his respects to him and express his side of the mission.
