Aircraft History
Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39N-1-BE Airacobra serial number 42-18410. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 35th Fighter Group (35th FG), 40th Fighter Squadron (40th FS). No known nose art or nickname. No known nickname or nose art. When lost, engine V-1710-85 AAF serial number 42-96208. No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
On October 16, 1943 took off from Tsili Tsili Airfield piloted by Captain James R. Miller leading a patrol over Salamaua. Over the target area, the weather was bad with visibility 0-0 at approximately 7:30pm. Last seen entering clouds roughly 35 miles east of Salamaua. When this aircraft failed to return the pilot was listed as Missing In Action (MIA).

Memorials
Miller was officially declared dead the day of the mission. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart, posthumously. Miller is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
