On August 25, 1944 pilot P-47D Thunderbolt 42-75883 bailed out and trekked twenty days before reaching the north coast of New Guinea. The original photo was captioned as September 15, 1944 but was more likely taken on September 21, 1944 before he was transported to by barge to Madang.
