Pilot 2nd Lt. Thomas J. C. Schatzman, O-809498 (survived) Force Landed March 14, 1944 MACR none Aircraft History Built by Republic. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-47D Thuderbolt serial number uknown. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 35th Fighter Group (35th FG), 41st Fighter Squadron (41st FS) "The Flying Buzzsaws". No known nose art or nickname. Mission History On March 14, 1944 took off from Gusap Airfield piloted by 2nd Lt. Thomas J. C. Schatzman on a mission against Wewak. Returing from the mission, Schatzman became lost and forced landed at Terapo Airfield due to fuel shortage.
