Location Tezgaon Airfield is located near Dhaka in the Dhaka District of Bangladesh. Prewar and during the Pacific War, Tezgaon was part of India. Wartime History Built by the British as a military airfield. During World War II, used by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as a staging base for bombers bound for airfields elsewhere in India. American missions against Tezgaon 12th BG, 82nd BS (B-25) Italy March 19 - June 13-15, 1944 Pandaveswar 12th BG, 81st BS (B-25) Italy March 20 - June 13, 1944 Pandaveswar 12th BG, HQ Italy March 21 - June 13, 1944 Pandaveswar 7th BG, 436th BS (B-24) Majhaiganj June 14, 1944 - ? 7th BG, 492nd BS (B-24) Majhaiganj June 17, 1944 - ? 7th BG, 493rd BS (B-24) ? - October 5, 1944 Pandaveswar Postwar After Pakistani Independence in 1947, Tejgaon became the first airport to operate civil aviation in what was then East Pakistan and used as a Pakistan Air Force base. Today Known as Tejgaon Airport, airport code VGTJ) and is Bangladesh's sole international airport. After the construction of Shahjalal International Airport in 1981, control of this airfield was transfered to the Bangladesh Air Force.
