During the Pacific War, used by American aircraft being ferried from Hawaii to the South Pacific and Australia.

Today
Still in use today as Christmas Island Airport. Classified as a small airport, the single runway is oriented 26/08 and measures 6,900' x 98' surfaced with asphalt at an elevation of 5' above sea level. Airport codes: ICAO: PLCH, IATA: CXI. There are limited charter flights from Honolulu Airport and Nandi Airport.
