B-17C Flying Fortress Destroyed at Hickam Field
Robert Rocker adds: "This is the B-17C that co-pilot Roy Reid flew on December 7, 1941 in the flight of B-17's coming into Hawaii from the States. Roy told me during the attack they were on approach to Hickham from the Pacific Ocean side and a Zero made a run on them and caught the oxygen bottles on fire and the fire has so weakened the fueslage that when they touched down and rolled about 400', the fuselage broke in half, but everybody got out ok. Roy later went to New Guinea and flew for the 43rd BG and then later flew missions for the 8th Photo Recon Squadron."
