Location Lat 64° 50' 15N Long 147° 36' 52W Ladd Army Air Airfield is located to the east of Fairbanks in Alaska in the United States. Also known as Ladd Field. Located at an elevation of 454' above sea level. Construction Built by the U.S. Army as a cold weather test station. During October 1940, Douglas O-38F 33-324 was the first aircraft to land at Ladd Field. YP-37 Serial Number 38-477 Cashed at the airfield. Postwar During 1947 renamed Ladd Air Force Base (Ladd AFB) and used by the U.S. Air Force (USAF). Postwar units at Ladd AFB 449th Fighter Squadron (P-61, F-82, F-95, F-89) Adak arrives March 28, 1949–August 25, 1960 deactivated Today Still in use today as Lad Army Air Airfield (Ladd AAF) and remains in use as a military airfield.
