CHINA-BURMA-INDIA (CBI) (10th AF): CHINA AIR TASK
FORCE (CATF): 76th Fighter Squadron, 23d Fighter Group, moves from Kunming to Kweilin with P-40s.
SOUTH PACIFIC AREA (SOPAC, Joint Chiefs of Staff): Daily search missions over
the southern Solomons are begun from New Caledonia . 26th Bombardment Squadron
(Heavy), 11th Bombardment Group (Heavy), arrives at Bauer Field (Port Vila) from Hawaii with B-17s; first mission is 30 July.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AREA (SWPA, 5th AF): B-25s, and P-39s
pound barges and concentrations at Gona and troops on inland bound for Kokoda;
Japanese forces push to Oivi, within six miles of Kokoda. Lost is P-400 pilot Beeson (KIA, BR).
