SUNDAY, 13 DECEMBER 1942
(Eleventh Air Force) A largely negative reconnaissance
is flown over Attu, Agattu, Kiska, Amchitka and Semichi by two
B-24s and two P-38s.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Fifth Air Force) A
Japanese convoy of five destroyers is detected off Madang that will attempt to
bring in reinforcements to Buna but will instead unload at the mouth of the Mambare River early the next morning. B-17s and B-24s
attack as it moves south but fail to deter its progress. Meanwhile A-20s bomb
and strafe the Cape Killerton area while B-17s bomb the Salamaua area. B-26s hit Gasmata Airfield.
IJN: HA-22 Type A midget submarine (crew rescued) is scuttled off Cape Esperance on Guadalcanal.
U.S. Army: On Guadalcanal, 3d Bn of 182d Inf and Co C of 2d Mar Engr Bn arrive on Guadalcanal.
