Wartime
History
This Japanese Naval Gun was emplaced at Buna Airfield.
During the battle of Buna Strip in late December 1942, it was depressed
to fire horizontally at the approaching Australian tanks and troops.
Wreckage
Remained 'in situ' until 1973, along with two tanks and another anti-aircraft gun.
Recovery & Display
Recovered and transported to Port Moresby and exported to the United States. Today, it is displayed at the Nimitz Museum (National Museum of the Pacific War).
