The site of very large Japanese Army base and the area is packed with rusting relics. Extensive fortifications never used because Australian landing was to the north.

Photo of Josh Mcdade with a bunch of local kids at Kaukausina. Went to this village for a peace meeting on my trip to Buin. A lot of Aussie soldiers like to have a quick play with the kids. Many take and give balls as gifts to schools or groups of kids.
