Location
Located 135 km southwest of Townsville,
at 310m above sea-level, 138 km east of the Great Dividing
Range. It is about 200 km east of the edge of the vast flat plains
which extend across to the Gulf of Carpentaria and into far western
Queensland.
Formally a bustling gold town, it became an active USAAF
and RAAF base during early 1942.
