Location
Largest island in the Moluccas Group, the Ceram Sea is to the north, and Banda Sea to the south.  The island is due west of  New Guinea / Irian Jaya.

B-24 Liberator
Bruce Fenstermaker reports:
"Lost on mission over Ambon. Japanese buried crew remains a week later, most of wreck was scrapped, turret, etc remained. Flew for about 60 miles, went in "Welalautai"

Boela
Located on the north-eastern coast of Ceram. Site of the Boela Oil Fields. Occupied by Japanese 'N' expeditionary force from Ambon on March 31, 1942.

American Missions Against Boela
June 17, 1943 - September 27, 1944

Boela Oil Fields
Located at Boela, this oil refinery was developed by the Dutch and occupied by the Japanese. The facility included shore based oil wells, storage reservoirs and a series of piers extending into the harbor. Targeted by 5th Air Force raids in mid-1944.

Japanese wartime aerodrome.
