Japanese Use
Single runway, built by the Japanese, this airfield is at the base of the Cyclops mountains along the Depopre - Aerodrome track. This airfield was parallel and located to the north of Sentani.

American Use
Occupied by the 186th Infantry on April 26th, 1944 it was found serviceable for light planes only, with the possibility for further expansion.

Today
Cyclops airfield area is overgrown since the war.   It has been partially developed into the town of Jayapura.

Gene Strine visited the site of the old airfield in the late 1980's
"No one knew exactly where it was because it had become completely overgrown. After walking to the approximate area, I was able to find overgrown anti-aircraft gun revetments. One of the guns was still in its revetment. I discovered a fuse for a shell, and a Japanese liquor bottle.

Location
The tallest hill near Hollandia.

Wartime History
General MacArthur's HQ and bunker were built at this location. He used it from the middle of 1944 until the invasion of the Philippines. It offers a commanding view over the area.

Today
There is a monument atop the hill.
