Location
Lat 0° 48' 0N Long 127° 19' 60E  Island located to the west of Halmahera.

History
Seat of Dutch government in this region of the Dutch East Indies. It was a well developed town prior to WWII. During the war, it was occupied by the Japanese, and was an important shipping port and supply base in the region.
