Location Lat 5° 32' 60S Long 150° 9' 0E Kimbe located on the north coast of New Britain. Borders Kimbe Bay to the north and the Dagi River to the east. Previously, Kimbe was known as San Remo Plantation for the prewar plantation. Prewar San Remo Plantation was established at this location and planted with coconut plams harvesting copra. Wartime History During March 1944, U.S. Marines advanced to San Remo Plantation. Today The present day Kimbe was founded in 1969 at the site of the San Remo Plantation as a port to export oil palm and named Kimbe after Kimbe Bay. San Remo Club Obsidian stone obelisk World War II memorial and plaques dedicated to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) personnel lost on New Britain.
