POW Camp at Wewak (Kreer)
During the war near the beach at Kreer was a POW camp. The camp consisted of a perimeter fence with bamboo cages and huts built for prisoners. Some POWs were sent to Rabaul and then onto Japan. Of those left at Wewak from 1943 onwards, none survived.
