Location Lat 4° 24' 0S Long 152° 7' 60E Takubar is located on the north coast of the Gazelle Peninsula in New Britai. To the west are Vunapope and Kokopo. To the east is Lesson Point, Rapopo and Rapopo Airfield. Wartime History During January 1942, occupied by the Japanese until the offical surrender of Japan in September 1945. During 1942-1944 the coastal area off Takubar was used as a Japanese anchorage for cargo vessels and small ships. Takubar Wreck Japanese shipwreck, likely the Kinkansan Maru but unconfirmed Today During April 2001, in the Takubar township area unexploded ordnance was discovered including 14 x 50kg bombs that were reported to the East New Britain Provincial disaster coordinator.
