Bonegi River
US Army troops crossed the Bonegi River on January 30, 1943. A bridge of logs was initially built over the river, later improved with a Bailey bridge that was used until the early 2000's, then discarded when a new span was built over the river.

US Army Camp
There was a US camp on the beach in 1943 - 45 and across the road was the firing range with M4 Sherman Tank "Jezebel" and a junk pile in the jungle. The ridge they walked up in Thin Red Line movie is the next ridge to the east. Peter Flahavin, 1998.
