Coastal area west of the Kokumbona. It was at this location that several Japanese transports ran aground during the Japanese reinforcement of Guadalcanal in early November 1942. The two transports were destroyed, and became icons of the Guadalcanal battle.
Bonegi
River
The Kinugawa Maru
wreck is just east of the river mouth. 500 yards inland; looking

Bailey Bridge
The remains of an American Bailey bridge, the formally spanned the Bonegi river are present here. Used until recently, it is discarded near the roadside in favor of a new bridge. Photo by Justin Taylan 2003.
US Army Camp
There
was a US camp on the beach in 1943 - 45 and across the road
was
the firing range with Sherman Tank "Jezebel" and a
junk pile in the jungle. The ridge they walked up in Thin
Red Line movie is the next ridge to the east. Peter Flahavin, 1998.
Japanese Hospital Area
I have heard about the "hospital
area" at
Bonegi but I kinda understood it was more a gathering of sick and
dying, etc. I suppose this could be a hospital. My understanding
was US soldiers went through this groupment and slaughtered them
in late Jan 1943."
