Santa Isabel Province

Location
This province is located on the eastern edge of the Solomon Island chain, north-west of Guadalcanal.
It includes Santa Isabel Island and smaller offshore islands in the vicinity. During the war, this area was occupied by the Japanese and bypassed by the Allies.

Thousand Ship Bay
Located on the south-east coast of the island, between San Jorge Island and Santa Isabelle. Name by Mendan who believed a thousand ships could fit in the area. On May 2, 1942 a Japanese seaplane tender and cruiser were here on their way to capture Tulagi, 60 miles to the south.

Lat 8° 7' 60S Long 159° 34' 60E Small town on the eastern coast of Santa Isabel, near the southern portion of the island.

Fera Island
Small island off Buala. Prewar there was a plantation at Fera. Post war, an airstrip built at this location.

Not a wartime strip, built postwar
