Wartime History
4th Civil Engineering Department and Naval Construction Departments dug trenches, caves and built roads on the islands. Only about six buildings associated with the radio station were built. 600 Men of the 49th Naval Guard Unit were stationed on the island too.

The Forth Naval Communications Corps and its mission of maintenance and operation of the radio and radar station on the island. A torpedo boat station was created later in the war.
