Sakai's autobiography published in Japanese language only. Oozora No Samurai translates to "Samurai in the Sky", which is much longer and more detailed account of his wartime service.

A shorter, abridge, adaptation was written in the english language, Samurai! with Martin Caiden. A 1976 movie, Ôzora no samurai is also an adaptation of Sakai's story.
