The
Destruction of Manila in World War II
3 February - 3 March 1945
The battle for Manila was one of the few urban combats
of the Pacific war that American forces were involved. For
a month, American forces were pitted against a fanatical Japanese
defenders. When
it was over, the ancient city would be in ruins and hundereds of
thousands of civilians would die and suffer.
This book is one of
the only titles in print that tells the story
of the city: its history, buildings and a day by day account of
battle in the city. Author Aluit has done exhaustive research
into the battle: including both the American and Japanese sides of
the military conflict, and the oral histories of civilians who observed
the battle.
