Ship History
Prewar, this vessel was a cruise ship in Japan. During the Pacific War, requisition by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN).

Sinking History
Sunk into the Buka Passage to the east of Buka Town.

Shipwreck
Until the 1970s, the stern was visible above the surface during low tide. Known to locals as the "stern out of water shipwreck".

Shirley Cook dove the wreck:
"I got a rectangle porthole from this shipwreck, and also another round porthole."
