Location Port Keats Airfield was located to the south of Port Keats Mission Station on the northern coast in the Northern Territory (NT) of Australia. To the west was the Timor Sea and to the south south Sugarloaf Range. Construction Port Keats Airfield was built by Australia as an emergency landing strip (ELS). The largest runway was oriented 115° that measured 3,000' x 300' with an extension off the northwest end that meausred 1,000' x 120'. A second runway oriented 172° was for use by light aircraft meausred 2,000' x 150'. The surrounding area was heavily forested with 50'-60' tall trees and tropical undergrowth to the north and south.
