Location Palikir Airfield is located at Palikir on Ponape Island in Ponape State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Also known as "Airfield Number 2" or "Airfield No. 2" as the first airfield built by the Japanese on the island, after Nan Pohn Mal Airfield (Airfield No. 1). Construction Built by the Japanese Navy, under the command of Captain Kitawaga who also oversaw the defense. Once completed, it was never used operationally as it was bombed as soon as it was completed. Today During the 1980s, the Federated States of Micronesia capital buildings for legislation, congress, leader's offices and the president's office were built at Palikir Airfield.
