Location Matupi Seaplane Base was located on the western coast of Matupi Island. Seaplane takeoffs and landings were made in Simpson Harbor. Other seaplane and flyingboat anchorages at Simpson Harbor were Sulphur Creek Seaplane Base (Rabaul) and Malaguna Seaplane Base. Wartime Usage Seaplane mooring area, south of the main seaplane base at Sulpher Creek. Used by flying boats including H8K2 Emily and H6K Mavis and seaplanes including E13A Jakes, F1M2 Petes, and A6M2-N Rufes. Today Prior to the 1994 volcanic eruption, some of the moorings for H6K2 Mavis and H8K2 Emily seaplanes were visible offshore. Contribute
