    Port Heiden Airfield (Fort Morrow Army Airfield) Alaska United States

Location
Lat 56° 57' 33N Long 158° 38' 0W  Port Heiden Airfield is located on the north side of the Alaska Peninsula in Alaska in the United States. Also known as "Fort Morrow Army Airfield" or "Fort Morrow Airfield". Today, known as "Port Heiden Airport".

Construction
On June 17, 1942 the U.S. Army established a garrison of 1,400 officers and enlisted men at Port Heiden with the mission of developing an air base intermediate between Kodiak Airfield and Cold Bay Airfield.

Wartime History
The airfield did not have any permanent assigned units during the war, but hosted numerous temporary assigned USAAF and Naval Air units during the Aleutian Campaign and aided in the defense of Kodiak Island.

Postwar
Beginning in 1958 the airport was used to support Port Heiden Air Force Station, a Cold War Distant Early Warning Line radar station. The station was operated by Detachment 5, 714th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron based at Cold Bay Air Force Station, near Cold Bay, Alaska. The radar station was inactivated in September 1969, ending military use of the airport.
The Air Force remediated the radar site around 2000, removing all abandoned military structures and returning the site to a natural condition.

Today
Still in use today as Port Heiden Airport, designated a small airport with two runways. The first is oriented 23/05 measures 5,000' x 100' surfaced with gravel. The seond is oriented 31/13 measures 4,000' x 100' surfaced with gravel. Airport codes: FAA: PTH / ICAO: PAPH / IATA: PTH. This airport has scheduled service to King Salmon Airport by Peninsula Airways.
