Re: MIA 2nd Lt. Daniel W. Davis B25 lost over Bougainville
Dave, sorry for the delay. I have been out of action for awhile. My information came from the Royal Australian Airforce (RAAF) Searcher Unit files. This unit was responsible for search and recovery of missing personnel in the SE Asia region after WWII. There is a letter for the US Philippines Comman...

Re: 1943 Rabaul Wreck-ID?
The sinking ship in the link posted by PF is most probably the Manko Maru. Sunk by Captain Charles W Howe of the 90th Attack Squadron, the ship was originally identified as the Haruna Maru (sister ship of Manko Maru). The US Bombing Survey map of Rabaul Habour indentifies the ship as Manko Maru. Att...

Re: A24-49 Warwick Rose and crew
Mike and Gordy, S/L Rundle led a RAAF searcher party which visited the Manokwari area between 5 June and 11 July 1947. This was after F/Lt O'Shea's report (23 Oct 1946) and Presumption of Death of the crew of A24-49 (4 Dec 1946). 1. It was concluded that the aircraft seen to crash by Sgt-Maj Beaufor...

Re: MIA 2nd Lt. Daniel W. Davis B25 lost over Bougainville
David, 1. The US AGRS visited the crash site of your uncle's B-25 41-13130 (lost Sept 16, 1943) and recovered three remains. These were stored in the AGRS Mausoleum in Manila as Unknows X-3847, X-3852 and X3853. A local said that several remains were recovered by Australians soon after the crash. Th...

Re: Locating 41-30084 "Hung Lo" in Halmahera, Indonesia
Brian, The RAAF Searcher Unit visited the wreck of 41-30084 in Jan/Feb 1948. They made three visits to the site and found no remains. It appeared to have made a "very good crash-landing" which was considered survivable. The wreck was located in sea near shore close to the mouth of Kali Tiga River in...

Re: Australian?
Daniel is correct. This is the execution of RAAF F/Lt William Newton, VC (not an Allied Intelligence Officer). The link posted by PF is quoting (without attribution) from a Japanese diary captured during the war. Here is a link to a NAA War Crimes file with the translation of the diary entry (pages ...

Re: Albert Frederick Walker
Hi RED, your certainly have a very interesting story to tell. It appears that Flt Sgt Walker was born in Te Aroha, NZ on 28 March 1910, son of Fredrick Angus Stanley & Marie Walker (née Guilding). He was married to Mabel Annie Walker (née Wrigley) and they had one daughter. They lived in Pt. Chevali...

Re: P-40 at Noro, Solomon Islands
The P-40 seen near Noro may be RNZAF (18 Squadron) P-40N NZ3156 (42-104852). On 21 November 1943, NZ3156 crashed into jungle 300 yards from end of the runway at Ondonga after engine failure on take off. Pilot F/O John BEW was killed. Re: 1Lt Joseph F. Miller
Hi Brenda, glad I could help. I don't know the last position of the plane. However, I did take a quick look at MACR 14964 on footnote.com.... It gives the location as "About 2° 40 Out Of Laoag On Approx. Course Of 40°". Laoag is near the NW corner of Luzon. It also appears that there were a further ...
