Recent buzz on the Internet indicates that the wreck of B-17E 41-2446 no longer remains in a Papua New Guinean swamp. Numerous reports indicate the aircraft was broken up and could currently be sitting in Lae awaiting shipment to the US. Though there are quite a number of these reports from reputabl...

Hi All, I've made David's post "Sticky" as there has been quite a lot of speculation about either (or even both) the Swamp Ghost and Black Cat Pass B-17s being recovered. As I write this, there seems to be no hard evidence (yet) that either Fortresses have been, or are in the process of being recove...

Papua New Guinea - 2006

Hi All, After last year's awesome trip to PNG with Justin, I will be returning later in 2006. My main goal is to head back and spend more time around the battlefields of Buna, Gona and Sanananda. I'm also looking at possibly visiting Milne Bay or flying to Kokoda. I doubt I'll get further up north, ...

Hi All, Justin and I have been working on a redesign/update for the MIA section of the website: http://www.pacificwrecks.com/mia/index.html I would be interested in hearing what people would like to see in such a section, so please post any ideas relating to this. Also, I would love to hear from any...

Thanks for that!

I recently bought "Mud Over Blood" by Carl Johnson - A nice collection of details about the 39th Battalions activities during the Second World War.

My grandmother's brother-in-law, Roy Schmidt, was KIA with the 39th at Sanananda in January 1943.

Requesting Information - Veterans Of Buna, Gona, Sanananda

Hi All, Before the forum went down, I had asked for any information about veterans who served in the Buna, Gona, Sanananda areas of Papua New Guinea between November 1942 and January 1943. I've now been in contact with a number of Australian and American veterans and relatives, though am still looki...

Yamamoto's G4M1 (c/n 2656) is located near Buin on the island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.

Details of the wreck can be found on the database at:
http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/g4m/2656.html

I'm yet to visit the site, though I know numerous other PWD contributors have been there.

Thanks for that Phil. The 100 Squadron diaries seem to have the same basic information I already have. Am yet to check out the ANGAU reports. I've also been told that maybe one of the Kittyhawks was shot down on the September 5th raid, though have been unable to find any further evidence of this. Af...
