Am looking for information, particularly Japanese wrecks in Kao Bay, Halmahera Island, Indonesia.
I’m particularly interested in the history of the Japanese occupation on the island but particularly the Kao area
Can anybody point me in the general direction please?

Hi James:

I've been to Halmahera while visiting Morotai. There are books which discuss Kao and Halmahera a little. One is called "Morotai" another is "Pacific Sweep". In Pacific Sweep I read about Tom McGuire getting his 20th kill over Galela (a few miles from Kao). The Australian War Memorial has photos with many captions of Morotai and Halmahera. At Galela you can still see bomb craters, and the island is tropical and full of palm trees. It's a remote part of the world, but the people are friendly and if you go there you won't forget about it.

Sincerely,

Chris Miller
