Pacific Wrecks database indicates that B-24D-130-CO Liberator serial # 42-41075 crashed in the Owen Stanley Mountain Range on Noverber 22, 1943 and list the crew. My uncle, Henry J. Kaufmann is correctly listed as "gunner." The information on the Pacific Wreck database lists under "Wreckage" that the missing bomber was located by a mission priest in December 1943 near Kerau, New Guinea. I am curious to know how this information about the discovery by the mission priest. Where exactly is the aircraft located? Are there photos of the wreckage? Is there a report on the recovery of human remains? What is the current condition of the wreckage?
Thanks to anyone with information on this subject.
Sincerely,
Steve Henry Feimer
