info on 2010 recovery of PNG WWII plane

Post by pngnukna »

I live and work part-time in remote PNG village. The village (Hamelengan) is located in Morobe Province on the Huon Peninsula in Kabwum District. A friend in the village told me by two-way radio that a helicopter with U.S. military personnel landed in this village in October 2009 as a prelude to possibly recovering a WWII aircraft wreck high up in the valley above the village. I am trying to find out information about whether this recovery will take place, and if so, when. Searches on the internet have been fruitless. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a JPAC (www.jpac.pacom.gov) operation. They might be looking for the pilot/crew. Danny
