US Navy Kingfisher wreck site salvage history - W.A.

Post by silvano jung »

Hi all

I'm seeking information on a US Navy Patrol Wing Ten (Fleet Wing Ten?) Kingfisher crash at Cape Range National Park, Western Australia. The seaplane (Vought-Sikorsky OS2U-3 Kingfisher) crashed about 20 kms from Pot Shot on 17 May 1943. Both of the aircraft's crew were killed. Not much remains of the wreck site today, but I've been told that the RAAF salvaged the aircraft in the 1970s. Perhaps this is just an anecdote? Does anyone know what may have happened to the sections of the aircraft that were said to have been salvaged? Were they used in an aircraft restoration project perhaps?

Regards
Silvano
