Looking for any details concerning the crash of an AAF airplane at Queensland, Australia, on 5 June 1942. Need the AAF serial number and aircraft type for the AAF airplane that crashed at Queensland on 5 June 1942. Six fatalities. Sole survivor James W. Parker (rank and branch unknown). Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Killed in the AAF crash at Queensland, Australia, on 5 June 1942 were:
Patrick W. McIntyre, Pilot?
Dwight S. Muckley, co-pilot?
T.E. Phipps, Jr.
Richard M. Cone
Henry W. Lysakoski (civilian)
Edward Marschmer (civilian)
Survivor: James W. Parker.
This information was found on the AAF Foreign Aircraft Accident Data Sheet on the AAF Aircraft Accident Microfilm for that date; there is no proper AAF Form # 14 Aircraft Accident Report for this one that I can find. Just the data sheet.
Don't know the rank or branch of the above mentioned servicemen;
Still looking for the aircraft type, AAF serial number, exact location, and any other detail concerning this accident. Thanks, Tony Mireles

I believe that those killed were first buried in the American plot of the Lutwyche cemetery in Brisbane and were relocated at the end of the war.
3 now rest in Hawaii, the others may have been returned to the US

It interesting to note the unit to which Cone was attached.
I have been unable to find enlistment records for Phelps & Muckley - could these names be checked (service numbers if available)
Working on the aircraft type and number
19BG were operating B-17's at that time although crew list given is small for a B-17

If they're not listed on the
ABMC website then they are not buried in cemeteries under the control of the American Battle Monuments Commission - Possibly private burials.
I found this page:
http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/ ... un1942.htm
Which lists it as an "Unknown" aircraft loss at Archerfield on 05-Jun-1942.
I wonder if McIntyre the namesake of the B-24 base at Tocumwal?

Hi Daniel,
In answer to your question about Tocumwal. Yes. It was named after Capt MacIntyre. IIRC the forums at ADF Serials had a topic discussion on this with a NAA image stating such.

Noel,
I am glad that my original posting generated the interest that was pivotal in solving your mystery about the name of McIntyre Field.
As I stated above, there is no AAF Form # 14 Accident report for this accident. There exists only a data sheet from the AAF Accident Report microfilm.

I'm not sure what I can provide to this conversation other then that Richard M. Cone, is Richard Morton Cone, and was my grandfather. He was born in 1907, and I'm not sure what would have had him on this flight...

Aside from details already outlined by others,
1st Lt Tilden H Phipps Jr 0-355533 NFDs
1st Lt Dwight S Muckley Jr 0-398662 who was 34th PS 35th PG PI (41P-40s, evacuated to Australia 12/41) then 20thPS (Prov) (February 42 P-40E). He made it to Java with the 17thPS(prov) and was evacuated to Australia 01/03/42. After that, nil until accident.
I have no accidents IDed so far, only hunches.

Thanks Noel.
I 've been pretty well involved with Peter Dunn on these. I have fairly listings also of the naming of Northern Territory stripes and their Pilot/Airforce relationship as well as USAAF (USAFIA) all over Oz .
Most of the data comes from USAAF Records on microfilm and NAA Files in Australia.
Example per Livingstone Strip
I have a few of these I've sent to Peter

Hello,
This message is mainly for Peter Dunn & anyone interested in this mysterious crash.
While redoing a Google search, I came across the following article, to which I have no acquaintance/connection etc.
Possibly put up by someone seeing this forum thread, or perhaps Peter the website you kindly added this incident to.
From the article in the link below, it would appear as perhaps nothing more than a bit of 'mischief'.
Making out something different, other than what the facts have revealed?.
If there have been alleged sightings of WWII airmen late at night near the old WWII Archerfield Aerodrome, I'd like to know where the author gets his/her idea that the aircraft actually crashed in the nearby vicinity?. Do they have 'connections' we don't know about!?? (smile)
