Associating Serial Numbers with the Nick Name of a plane

I have just one question.
I have recently come a cross an old photo of My Uncles B24 and group photo where the airplane clearly displays a nick name on the nose of the plane. How would I be able to document the serial number found in the MACRs and Aircraft Record Card associated with a Nick name given to particular plane?
