I remember hearing something a few years back about Russell Crowe intending on doing a movie based on Australians in PNG during WW2. Whether it's the same one, I don't know.

However, I did come across this at IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481390/

The official movie website appears to be:

WOW! Having just read a couple books about Kokoda, (A Bastard of a Place, and Those Ragged Bloody Heroes) I MUST see this movie!! But can I? Will it be shown, or available for purchase in the U.S.? I also need to get the Damien Parer DVD..hopefully somebody in Oz can help me with some links...Sure wish I could hop on a plane and see the movie in a theater, but I can't.

Saw the trailer on the website yesterday (google "kokoda the movie"). It looks right and will be in your face so I'd say they definitely don't sugar coat it which will hopefully teach a few people who don't know just what the guys went through.

It opens here on April 20 (just before ANZAC Day), I've already called it my fave movie of the year and I haven't even seen it! It should do well here and going by the qulaity of the website and the trailer, it should be released worldwide, no idea how long it'll take to reach the US though. Hopefully, the US distributors will see it for what it is and not a non-American war movie.

Can't wait!

Cheers

Andy

I guess, worst case scenario, I might have to get a PAL capable player. I'm sure I can buy a copy of it from Australia, but it probably won't be NTSC. I sure hope some place like amazon.com carries it in NTSC format. I don't hold out much hope that it will be shown in U.S. theaters..be nice though.

Yeah, it sure does look like it might be a good movie. (But then again, so did Windtalkers....)

At least it's getting the new movie treatment though.

I'm not sure if the main website has changed, or whether this computer I'm on doesn't have the right Flash versions etc, but all I can get at the official Kokoda The Movie site is a slouch hat with moving jungle vines around it.

The trailer can be downloaded directly from:

Just saw the movie Kokoda and for those who have read about this episode of Australian History and for those who have not, see it! Iam no expert but I know a little about what happened with the 39th Battalion and this movie looks at it from a sections viewpont. The terrain and jungle is fairly close, except for the lantana in a few scenes. The uniforms, weapons etc are spot on i think. It is graphic in a few places but these scenes are part of what did happen. I am married to a Japanese and some of the acts that were committed should not be sanitised. As a historian i think that the Kokoda campaign far outstrips Gallipoli in significance. Gallipoli was first blood for Australia and concocted by the British, while Kokoda was our show and considering the odds 10-1, a far more significant military achievement. For those Americans on this site try and go and see it if it gets a release overseas. This aint no Hollywood flick and depicts what the Aussies had to do to stop the Japanese advance before Guadacanal began. Cheers Rod
