F4U-1 restoration in Australia

Post by CaliViper84 »

Hello,

Brief introduction my name is Willem from The Netherlands, just rounded the cape of 30 this year and love WW2 aviation.

In regard to F4U-1 birdcage Corsair now under restoration in Australia (Bu.No. 02270 flown by Capt. James A.Vittitoe, number 124 on the production line) I am in search of the exact unit markings plus their font, national markings and if possible a 4-side paint schematic from before it crashed in a lagune near an island in the island group now known as Vanuatu.

Vanuatu lagoon Corsair is being / was restored to static at Bob Jarret's ''Jet Fighter Museum'' Parafield airport South Australia. This collection closed and sold off.
At NQ Warbirds, Mareeba North Queensland another Corsair is nearing completion to flying status.
Has combat history, flown from a carrier in the Battle for Okinawa.

So, do we know what happpened to the plane after the liquidation of the collection? Did another collector or a museum buy it?
