Jap Zero 20mm Canon

Post by Heritage Munitions Museum »

Howdy Crew,
First timer here,
Can anyone tell me if the spent/fired 20mm cartridge cases were ejected from a Zero fighter plane or were they kept on board as ballast after being fired?
Thanks,
Peter.

They were ejected through a port under the wing. Here is a photo of the underside of a zero wing. This Zero had both a machine gun and a cannon in each wing. There are ejection ports for both guns, the longer slots are for the shell casings and the smaller ports are for the cartridge links.
