Hi All,
As a novice in aircraft, what is the long(ish) tube that protrudes out of the left hand wing of the Zero aircraft, closer to the wing tip?
Is it a wind speed pickup or something similar/
Some people mistake it for a gun barrel, but there is only 1 & the guns sit closer to the wing root rather than out near the tip.
Thanks,
Regards Ozzi.

Re: Jap Zero wing tip tube
Anyone?
So this question is either too hard to answer coz no one knows, or it is too easy that everybody knows the answer except me?
Please, Ozzi.

Ozzi,
Given your questions regarding the Zero you might find the following of interest.
http://aviationweek.com/blog/how-build-zero-1945
The article above contains 5 other links. One is a link which concerns an Oscar nominated film about the designer of the Zero, called "The Wind Rises".
Probably of more interest to you, there are links to an article about the Design Analysis of the Zero. The article was published in the May 1945 issue of Aviation.
