Lt R E Kennedy (2/17th Battalion)

Post by Daniel Leahy »

Hi All,

I've just been made aware that Lt Reginald Ernest Kennedy, NX104115, passed away over the weekend.

Lt Kennedy served with the 2/17th Battalion (9th Division) along the Huon Penninsula and later as a platoon commander with that Battalion in Borneo.

Gavin Long wrote of Lt Kennedy in the Army's Volume VII of the Official History of Australia in the War of 1939-1945. This passage appears on page 463 of The Final Campaigns available online at:
http://www.awm.gov.au/cms_images/histor ... ers/19.pdf
The leading platoon (Lieutenant Kennedy 4) attacked and took an enemy post killing three Japanese. A second platoon (Lieutenant Trudgeon 5) moved through on the right and, briskly attacking through high grass, overcame other posts, killing 12; one Australian was killed and four wounded.
Lt Kennedy's service details are available on the WW2 Nominal Roll at:
http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/vetera ... nID=212175

A more detailed biography will be appearing soon in the Veteran's section of the Pacific Wreck Database.
