2. MYTHBUSTERS: AMELIA EARHART AND THE PACIFIC WAR
---------------------------------------------------------
On July 2, 1937 Lockheed Model 10 Electra piloted by Amelia Earhart
with navigator Fred Noonan took off from Lae Airfield, New Guinea
and was never seen again.
Earhart's last radio message was estimated to be within 200 miles of her destination Howland Island. Since no confirmed evidence of her aircraft or remains has ever been found, myths have emerged about her, related to the Pacific War. |

3. LEAVE AMELIA ALONE
---------------------------------------------------------
by Michael Claringbould
"Millions of dollars have been wasted, spent by various US enterprises apparently hell-bent on proving that the pair’s Lockheed 10 Electra either wound up on a remote Pacific island, or that they were captured by the Japanese. All these dollars continue to be wasted whilst the funds could be put to a greater cause – the location and identification of Pacific wartime wrecks being but one example." |
