A6M2 Zero Point Blaze

These photos taken in 1972 by John Sluce but it still looks the same when I last saw it in Darwin in 1986. Wreckage was recovered and is at the Darwin Museum.

A6M Wreckage

Engine
Bits of a Zero that went in at high speed, disintegrating at Point Blaze about 60 miles SW of Darwin.

The Sakae 12 radial engine of the Point Blaze Zero. Somebody had sawn off the blade tips, probably the army during the war, these were popular souvenirs.

Another view of the engine, one of the propellers is bent to the right from the crash.

Zero wreckage at the point of impact. Scattered pieces of the fuselage, wings and engine are located nearby.
A view of the Zero undercarrage and wing remnants. No corrosion and excellent paint on surviving pieces.
Wing section and remains of one of the barrels of the 20mm cannon.
