Japanese Tanks were knocked out while trying to cross the Matanikau sandbar on Oct.23, 1942. The turret of one of these tanks still protrudes above the waves.

Cape Esperance, on the northwest tip of Guadalcanal, where the Japanese evacuated their surviving troops by night following 6 months of fighting.
