Iain Williams  Salamaua

These mountain guns are located above the peninsula and above Salamaua. The location was fairly benign with only the guns, a few shell holes, trenches, an underground room and some spent and inspect ammunition lying about the place.

Buna was a major Australian offensive against the Japanese. If my memory serves correct the Australian troops landed, and fought for the Peninsula that is depicted as the gun's field of fire.

Yokohama Maru
The Yokohama Maru was a 300 foot Japanese supply ship that was sunk in 1943 (44?) in the Salamaua area of Papua New Guinea. The wreck lies in very deep water and can only be visited by divers experienced in deep water operations.
