Location
Taiof Island is located of the northwestern corner of Bougainville Island. To the north is Sohano Island and Buka Island. To the southeast is Soraken and Soraken Harbor. Also known as Toiokh Island. Today located in Kunua Rural LLG of Northern Bougainville District in Autonomous Region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Wartime History
During 1942 occupied by the Japanese. During early March 1944, Japanese troops attempted to withdraw from Taiof Island using native canoes and attempted to reach Tarlean on the northwest coast of Bougainville but were ambushed by villagers loyal to Australia New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU).
